Andy Serkis’ role in The Force Awakens revealed, Trevor Noah to debut in September for the Daily Show and FIFA 16 to include womens’ teams.

We’ve got some set photos from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 which not only feature Shredder and the turtles, but also have a focus on newcomers Bebop and Rocksteady, you know, those two mutants who are like, a punk rhino and a punk Warthog? Anyway, we see them here in their regular human skins, so hopefully this is pre-mutation.

Another day, another Inside Out clip, this one focusses on memories, and the ‘core’ memories that determine the film characters’ personality. Who’s got bets on this being a major plot point?

Andy Serkis has revealed a set image from Star Wars the Force Awakens that should answer a few questions; most notably that Serkis will be in motion capture this time around, and that his character is named ‘supreme commander Snoke’. The leader of the remnants of the empire most likely.

The Daily Show’s new host, Trevor Noah will make his debut as host of the irreverent comedy show on September 28th. You can check out Noah trying out his new chair right here.

Dylan Bruce, star of Orphan Black and Arrow’s Brother Blood, has been cast in Heroes Reborn though very little is known about his character as of yet. Heroes Reborn will air some time this autumn.

Harvey Dent, played in Gotham by Nicholas D’Agasto, has been promoted to a series regular for season 2.

Assassins’ Creed Syndicate the next game in Ubisoft’s historical stabbing simulation will not have a companion app, unlike the last two instalments in the series, so that the dev team can focus on the ‘core experience’. Yes, please, more of this. Syndicate seems to be trying to right the wrongs of the last few games.

It’s taken this long, but female football (soccer) teams will finally be playable in FIFA 16. Not that we usually report on FIFA games, but this is kind of a big step. Not that you’ll be able to play mixed games, but there will be 12 international women’s teams available.

Free Games time; Microsoft’s Games for gold for June include Massive Chalice for Xbox One as well as Thief and Just Cause 2 for Xbox 360. While PSplus’s games include Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes and Super Exploding Zoo for PS4 and Cloudberry Kingdom for PS3. Check out the full list here.

The hunt for a Spiderman could be nearing an end, Legends of Tomorrow gets a neat new trailer, as does Lego Jurassic Park, where you can play as dinosaurs!

The third film in the rebooted (and well received) franchise Planet of the Apes, which started in 2011 with Rise(otPotA) and went on to Dawn(otPotA) in 2014 could be called War of the Planet of the ApesBASICALLY, it looks like shit is going down in the third instalment, because… war.

As we all know, rumours are sometimes baloney and sometimes they’re right on the money, well for some time now Asa Butterfield (Enders Game) has been in talks for the role of Spiderman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now it looks like a deal is about to be struck. What this means is that we’re likely to see a much younger Spiderman than we’ve seen before, with the character reportedly being only 15/16 years old when we meet him in Captain America Civil War.

Speaking of Civil War, we’ve got some behind the scenes photos from the filming that started this week; some scenes of a slum village (possibly connected to the Hulk out in Age of Ultron, or Wakanda) and a period style London (A flash back almost definitely) but most intriguing is a funeral scene with many SHIELD agents and known people in attendance, including Captain America, Falcon and Agent 13. Could this be a death that kicks off the entire civil war? Could be.

Here’s a poster and a load of cast images for Heroes Reborn, it turns out that there are a lot of characters involved that we’ve seen literally nothing of, also, another 2 images of Zachery Levi’s character holding a gun; he’s definitely evil.

The Simpsons was recently renewed for a 27th and 28th season, but they won’t be doing so with a full cast, as voice actor of over 37 characters, including Smithers, Mr Burns and Flanders (not to mention Skinner and Otto) Harry Shearer has left after not signing on to the new contract.

Legends of Tomorrow the Arrow/Flash spinoff starring heroes and not so heroes from the main shows as well as new characters including Rip Hunter and Hawkgirl, has its first synopsis and trailer, it looks fun; there’s time travel, humour, Randall Savage… It should be a good time, and will fill in the mid season break in early 2016.

Let this be a lesson to you folks, if you leak footage and information from a game that you were given access to through testing, you will get banned for live. As some Gears of War players found out when they woke up to find their XBL accounts had been banned with regards to the upcoming Gears of War game for Xbox One.

Lego Jurassic World hits in less than a month (June 12th) and this new trailer confirms that you will be able to play as the dinosaurs. (Dibs on the anklyosaurus, that guy is dope.)

Hey, a AAA game is on its way from Ubisoft (Psst, it’s Assassins’ Creed Syndicate) and as such you can expect a plethora of collectors editions, and because the game is based in London, they have silly London names, like Big Ben edition or, and I kid you not; Charing Cross Edition.

Will Assassins’ Creed Syndicate Turn the Franchise Around?

By Joe Strange

It’s that time of year again; we’ve got more information on the next Assassins’ Creed game. Ever since 2009’s Assassins’ Creed 2 we’ve had a new mainstay Assassins’ Creed game every year; some have been great, some… not so much.

It’s a fairly large point of contention in gaming; annual instalments of huge game series like Assassins’ Creed and Call of Duty. It was once the complaint that sports games like Fifa and Madden released the same game every year with only minor tweaks, and when that trend came over to narrative heavy games it all got a bit real.

Some franchises have suffered for it, with Assassins’ Creed being a notable example; Assassins’ Creed Brotherhood, despite being a smaller game (one city compared to AC2’s variety of settings), was a great extension to a well established system and character arc; it was more of the same, which, while satiating the fans need, did make them ask for more of the sort of advancement we saw between the first instalment and the second. With Revelations the series took a turn into the boring but at least they tried new things avenue. Assassins’ Creed 3 was a mess; boring main character, a combat system that was clunky and a narrative that was so dull that I think I slept through most of it while playing.

For me, Connor’s ‘adventure’ was the last straw. I was done.

That was until I heard the reception of Black Flag‘s humour, wit, fun and charm; it was like playing AC2 again; a likable but flawed main character, a great setting, new mechanics, polish. The series was on the up again.

Then last year, disaster struck.

Sorry, no, I read that wrong; Unity struck.

Full of bugs, glitches, gremlins and just, plain broken features, Unity was an unfinished piece of work that probably shouldn’t have seen the light of day when it did; it was a real advocate against annual releases.

So what’s the deal with this next one? What makes Syndicate different? What does it bring to the table that will maybe, possibly, turn this tail spinning franchise around?

Well, me from two second ago, I’m glad you asked, here it goes.

 1) It’s a new studio and team

Out of the gate, Syndicate is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, and not Ubisoft Montreal like the previous entries in the series, while we’re not sure how exactly this will go down it’s good to know that one of the leads from this new challenger worked on one of the good Assassins’ Creed games that was based in a single city (Brotherhood, so you know)

New teams often mean new ideas, and new ideas, hopefully means a more inventive and exciting time for everyone, I mean this one’s got a rope launcher that means you can Batman to the rooftops then zipwire on the fly; that’s pretty neat.

2) It’s bigger than Unity‘s Paris.

30% at an estimate, according to Ubisoft. One of the reasons that Brotherhood worked was that Rome was a large, but fairly varied city, you had country side and the crowds of Vatican City, or at least, as crowded as last gen could get. This time we’ve been told that a lot of time and effort has gone into making this version of London, not only busy, but believable, with crowds of people keeping to the pavements and carriages going hither and dither. The city that you’re trying to control should feel alive and worth controlling, not just some barely occupied shell; it’s bloody London after all.

Baring in mind, we were also told this about Unity, but who knows, maybe this one will be finished. Which leads me to…

3) No Multiplayer

Yesss. One of the (many) issues with Unity was the shaky and unstable mulitplayer mode; Co-op was promised but in reality it was restrictive and bland, and that was if you could find a game to join.

While everyone has had a little bit of fun with Assassins’ Creed’s competitive multiplayer in the past, it’s a system that hasn’t seen a lot of change for the better since its introduction back in Brotherhood, and the lack of a multiplayer mode isn’t a huge loss, since at its core, Assassins’ Creed is a single player experience; it’s a narrative lead game, and having idiots dry humping your character when you’re trying to listen to important plot takes away from that somewhat.

The focus on multiplayer has also, reportedly, meant that the team can focus on the single player, meaning that not only could this be a finished game come October, but it might even be polished!

4) New (hopefully good) main characters

Oh, Assassins’ Creed, if ever ‘hit and miss’ was an apt phrase, it would be for your protagonists; Ezio was such an incredibly welcome change to Altair’s stoicism and sense of duty; he was fun, cocky, but had a burden to bare, and his character progressed really well over his arc, Connor, the little shit, was just so dull. His dad was a much better character to play as; more personality, more spark, it’s a shame he’s a massive dick, but eh, what can you expect, he’s a templar.

Then we met with Black Flag‘s Edward Kenway, and we thought ‘yeah this is more like it’ – much more reminiscent of Ezio’s charm and charisma, but more of a selfish edge (he was a pirate after all). And as for… what his name? Arno? Did he have a personality?

With Syndicate, not only are we getting a quick tempered young Englishman as a playable character, but we’re getting his twin, Evie, who’s really only been described as a stealthy master assassin, with promise of her character being explored at E3.

Having two main characters that weave the plot together through their interactions and relationships will be so refreshing to see, especially as you’ll be able to switch between them during free roam and use their specialised skill sets during particular missions in the campaign.

So there’s four reasons why I think that Syndicate might be the saving grace that the Assassins’ Creed series needs. I probably missed some, like the fact you can hijack carriages or that throwing knives are back (Yesss), but I’m really hoping that this game is good. But maybe that’s because I’m English and a bad game set in England might hurt my pride. Or something.

What do you think of the look of Syndicate? Or the AC series in general? Leave a comment below and maybe, just maybe, Ubisoft will read it and will make the game much better for all of us.

Oscar Winner Redmayne in talks to lead Harry Potter Spin off, Assassins’ Creed Syndicate gets trailer and footage and The Muppets get a TV trailer.

Eddie Redmayne (You know, he won an Oscar for The Theory of Everything?) is in talks with WB to star in the Harry Potter spin off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and is apparently top of the list for the lead character, and author of the fictional book, Newt Scamander.

A commemorative print for the Hunger Games franchise has appeared with some link to the Cannes film festival, it features the Everdeen sisters looking all surly and district 13-y.

Marvel is courting Selma director Ava DuVernay to helm a ‘diverse’ phase 3 movie. Now, our money is on Black Panther, however, Captain Marvel also doesn’t have a director, so it could be that stand alone. It’s one or the other really.

The new Muppets television show, called, aptly, The Muppets, has a new trailer, and it seems to be going for a 30 Rock/The Office hybrid, with all that humour we’re used to seeing in The Muppets, with added satire. (Gonza hates gimmicks)

Morena Baccarin, who plays Leslie Thompkins in Gotham, will be a series regular in season 2, it’s been reported. This should allow Baccarin to sink her teeth into some more in depth characterisation with more of a focus next season.

Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter both got renewed for new seasons last week, and now we have synopsis for the latter courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. (Agent Carter) – Dedicated to the fight against new atomic age threats in the wake of World War II, Peggy must now journey from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous assignment yet. But even as she discovers new friends, a new home — and perhaps even a new love — she’s about to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect.

Batman has a sniper rifle in Arkham Knight! Okay, it’s actually a long range disruptor that you can use to disable enemy weapons before you engage them (so you don’t get shot in your Bat-butt) but still, if people see Batman on a rooftop with a gun… well people will talk…

Ubisoft have seemingly delayed Tom Clancy’s The Division until fourth Quarter 2015, which is actually Jan-March 2016. Which is a shame, though, delays are normally for the best.

The big news of the day is obviously the release of the trailer and gameplay (pre-Alpha) footage of Assassins’ Creed Syndicate; based in pre-industrial London, the game will focus on the struggles of Assassin Jacob Frye, who is trying to cause a revolution by working from the streets up to the highest of the highs, knocking templars off of the rungs as he climbs the ladder of family. (or something, family seems to be a running thing here.) Also, he’s got a grappling gun now, sort of. Also a Zip line maker, could be fun.

Hateful Eight Images, Batwing Concept Art, A heap of new season trailers, and Fallout 4 seems closer than ever…

Jurassic World, it’s less than a month away, so I guess we’re all full steam ahead on the ol’ promotional material, because right here over at Flickering Myth we’ve got four new TV spots for the next film in the ‘life finds a way’ saga.

The Hateful Eight, is also going into full swing, EW have a gallery of great looking behind the scenes shots of Tarantino’s next piece. They’re all here; Kurt Russell, Samuel El Jackson, Copious amounts of violence (probably).

We know from that trailer we saw that the Batwing will make an appearance in Batman Vs Superman, well now two pieces of concept art for the plane/aircraft have been put out, take a look here and here for different angles of the vehicle (which totally kills those two dudes in that trailer.)

Three new season trailers for you; the first is a season 3 trailer for Orange is the New Black which is due out on Netflix on June 12th (a month away), the second is for Minority Reportwhich will air on Fox this fall, and is based on the film from Spielberg (obviously) and the third is for Lucifer which features the king of hell wanting to take a break, and the chaos that ensues, I guess.

You know Fallout 4? That game that everyone in the world should be excited for? (According to Joe) Well, rumours have been filling the internet, and no more than the recent leaked image of a graphic artist working on a trailer for the game for Mirada studios, now, in light of this, Mirada have emailed Destructoid (one of those who broke the story) stating that this image was violating a Non Disclosure Agreement. So… We’ve definitely getting a Fallout 4 trailer soon right?

A year ago, Assassins’ Creed Unity was causing a to-do because playing as a female character just wasn’t an option, well, Ubisoft seem to be righting their wrongs, as it’s rumoured that you’ll be able to play as a lady in the upcoming entry Assassins’ Creed: Syndicate.
