Not so-Fantastic Four, Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition and the return of Walder Frey.

Film

The Fantastic Four reboot starring Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell, has not been received well, by critics or by fans, taking in just enough at the weekend to make it the eighth lowest ever earning Marvel film. Yikes.

There’s a few seconds of new footage in the new international TV spot for Star Wars The Force Awakens, go  on, watch it, you know you bloody want to.

Despite almost the entirety of 22 Jump Street making a joke at the expense of sequels (with the credits really hammering home the point) it looks like Sony is going forward with 23 Jump Street and they’re going to Medical School! Unfortunately, Phil Lord and Chris Miller will not be writing this instalment, but will only be on the project in a producing capacity.

Television

There’s a heap of on set photos from Daredevil season 2 depicting Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) brutally laying down his own kind of Punisher law. Go, observe, and get excited about this guy going toe to toe with Daredevil.

Sense8 has earned itself a second season from Netflix, not long ago Sara gave us a look into what it’s all about and, clearly, someone listened, because the reception of the show has been exceptional.

Get ready to throw stuff at your TV screens kids, because David Bradley has confirmed that he will return as Filch Walder Frey in Game of Thrones, at some point, probably season 6.

Games

Ori and the Blind Forest, which was received very well by critics and players alike, will be getting, not only an expansion, but a definitive edition later on in the year for Xbox one and PC.

Halo 5 Guardians had its beta earlier this year, and it turns out that it’s still a little bit accessible if you’ve downloaded it. Which means that when an update was launched, an eagle eyed player managed to snag some of the soundtrack and screenshots of a new play mode.

Hey! It’s been a long time, but we’re back, after a week’s absence, which we apologise for, it’s time to get back to regularly scheduled programming!

Film

Zoolander 2, after years of rumours (and probably helped out by  the fact that they decided to make an Anchorman 2) has its first trailer (because we don’t quite count that time Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson crashed the fashion show.)

Ridley Scott’s The Martian looks to be a scientifically accurate sci-fi fare that’s also a tale of survival as one man is separated from his team on Mars when a dust storm rolls in, here’s some new images showing off the atmosphere and tone of the film.

You know how normally, we’d show you a teaser one week, and a trailer a few weeks later, and then as the film’s release gets closer we’d throw any clips that happen to come up your way? Well we sort of missed The Man from U.N.C.L.E and are jumping straight in with a bunch of clips from Guy Richie’s new spy film.

Television

AMC have graciously offered us a look at Better Call Saul season 2, and by that, we mean here’s two images of the season… Thanks AMC.

Game of Thrones is likely to end after 8 seasons, according to the powers that be. Though HBO has expressed their enthusiasm for more storytelling from that world (it is a huge world, and so much has been shaved off for the show) so we may only see 8 seasons of Game of Thrones, but perhaps more of the land of Westeros.

Steven Moffat has out and said that Maisie Williams’ Doctor Who character isn’t a returning one; no River Song, no Jenny, none of those other cool fan theories that have popped up since she was first seen in the trailer to be familiar with the Doctor.

Games

Soon, Playstation owners will get a say on which PS4 games they’ll get free each month, at least, one of the games. Sony is introducing a Vote to Play system, where player will get to vote on a selection of games, the winner of which will be free the next month, the runners up? They’ll be discounted. Winners all round.

Today is the last day you’ll be able to bag yourself the immensely fun Rocket League for free on PS4. And I’d heartily recommend it, but if my recommendation isn’t quite enough, try looking at some of the new dealies you’ll get when the first piece of DLC comes out.

The Taken King is set to be Destiny’s biggest update, and with it comes a whole new area, the Dreadnought, take a look over at Polygon for he sort of thing that Oryx has in store for you come September 15th.

Suicide Squad trailer released in HD, a look at Oliver Queen’s new outfit and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 gets a trailer.

Film

The first trailer for Xmen apocalypse appeared at Comic Con this week, and while we don’t have that to show you, we do have a detailed description, as well as the confirmation of the official Four Horseman; Magneto, Psylocke, Storm and Angel.

Speaking of Super Hero trailers, or, more precisely, villain trailers, here’s an official release of the pirated Suicide Squad trailer that the WB have been unable to contain, so they did good by everyone and released an HD version.

Star John C Reilly has pretty much confirmed Wreck it Ralph 2. Though it’ll most likely be somewhere after all the other sequels (and new properties) that are coming out in the coming years. (Frozen 2, the Incredibles 2, Cars 34(probably).

Television

A whole lot of talking went on at Comic Con this week, some of it about our favourite scarlet Speedster The Flash, season two is only 14 weeks away and we’ve got a little run down of season one as well as a cryptic look at what we can expect in season 2. (Blue lightning, the answer is blue lightning).

Speaking of DCs’s television shows, Arrow, which saw Oliver Queen going off on holiday and hanging up his hood at the end of the last season, has a new costume. It looks very cool, as well as practical. Diggle is also getting new threads this season, though this one’s a little vague.

Finally, as a surprise to no one, Bran will be returning for season 6 of Game of Thrones, picking his story up a little after we left him (to skip all that boring seer training)

Games

Five nights at Freddy’s Four has a new creepy trailer, and will be coming this Halloween, this jump scar filled indie game series took the lets play community by storm.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 has a trailer, and it involves skating, which is good, since, you know, I don’t buy Pro Skater games for the FPS sections.

Batman Arkham Knight has had a heap of trouble on the PC, so much so that WB are holding off on the Batgirl DLC for the platform until it’s up to scratch.

Reaction Time: Game of Thrones Season 5 Finale

By Sara Da Silva

This season has definitely had its ups and downs and controversial moments. The season finale of Game of Thrones certainly had a lot to offer, but left nations heartbroken.

Spoilers Ahead, Oh lord, Spoilers ahead.
Arya Stark crossed off another name on her kill list: Ser Meryn Trant, who she blames for killing Syrio Forel. Despite becoming a complete badass, she quickly learnt that the Many-Faced God should not be played with.

In Winterfell, everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. Stannis Baratheon’s army was being swiftly defeated, even after having sacrificed his only child in the previous episode. Selyse, Stannis’ wife, was found hanging from a tree. I guess she just couldn’t deal with the guilt of not preventing her daughter’s murder. The Red Priestess abandoned Stannis just when he needed her the most, and after all that, Stannis finally met his demise at the hands of Brienne of Tarth. You go girl. Despite not seeing a corpse, the cut to black would suggest that he is dead, but this is Game of Thrones we’re talking about so we cannot be undoubtably sure. During all the commotion, Sansa Stark and Reek, who reclaimed his identity as Theon by pushing Myranda to her death, managed to escape by jumping off the wall into the snow below. I hope it was a cushioned fall.

Over in Dorne, Jaime revealed to Myrcella that he was in fact her father but it turns out she knew all along. So that was a sweet reunion. But of course, in true Game of Thrones fashion, it didn’t last very long. Just before boarding the ship, Ellaria Sand finally received some justice by delivering a poisonous kiss to Myrcella, who went on to die in her father’s arms.

Cersei continued to deny her affair with Jaime, but did admit to sleeping with Lancel and so has been allowed to return home before she will be officially judged. The path home was a very long one however. With her hair cut short and stripped of her clothing, Cersei had to travel through crowds whilst Septa Unella repeatedly chanted “shame” behind her. Bravo writers, you made me feel something that wasn’t pure hatred for Cersei.

And last, but certainly not least: the final scene. My beloved Jon Snow was murdered by the men of the Night’s Watch. Whilst readers of the books anticipated his cruel end, I was not aware of his impending death and did not react well to it. I know I should stop becoming so attached to these characters because they all seem to die in horrible ways but I just can’t help it. I can understand why the men of the Night’s Watch did not want to be led by a man who allowed their brothers to die to save the Wildlings, but leaving him in a traitor’s grave is just harsh. They do not understand the threat that is fast approaching. Winter is coming in the form of the undead. The question stands though: is Jon Snow really dead? I have seen countless rumours and theories flying through the internet. I am reading through the books now so I guess I’ll find out soon enough. For any non- readers, you’ll have to wait a while to find out. Good luck with that struggle.

Chris Pratt introduces his Dino-pack, Matt Parkman returns in Heroes Reborn and Batman Arkham Knight gets a live action trailer.

Film

Jurassic World is getting close now, and here’s two more TV spots for the next instalment in the ‘life finds a way’ propaganda movie series, the first features Chris Pratt’s character introducing the Raptor Pack, while the second is an explanation of why they felt the need to BUILD A NEW DINOSAUR.

We get a look at each of the Fantastic Four’s powers in this new promo– beware, it’s actually an add for a movie app.

Remember a while ago we spoke about the BBC drama that would be based around the creation of the GTA series? It was to be titled Game Changer, well, Take-Two Interactive have filed for a lawsuit against the BBC for copyright infringement. So, did someone not like the script?

Television

Heroes Reborn is bringing back yet another familiar face, in the form of psychic cop/magic painter Matt Parkman played by Greg Grunberg. Previously a staple of the original series, Parkman was one of the lead investigator into the Sylar murders (you know, when that show was great.)

Fans of the Flash and Arrow have a long wait ahead of them until the autumn when the shows return, and no doubt we’ll be covering any new news that turns up until then, like this, two videos in which the shows’ creators are chatting about the upcoming seasons.

Games

Battlefield Hardline will get its first of four planned expansions in June, it’s been announced, Criminal Activity will include new maps, weapons and cars as well as a new game mode, check the full list of features out here.

A trailer for the next instalment in the Game of Thrones Telltale game series is out now, with the actual chapter releasing next week across platforms.

There’s a new trailer for Batman Arkham Knight, with a twist; this one is life action, and instead of focussing on gameplay, it’s all about capturing the feel of being Batman, you know, one of the things these games do really well is making you feel like an absolute badass.

Because you’re Batman.

New Destiny expansion out now, Mad Max’s sequel title confirmed and the Grant Gustin talks alternate dimensions in The Flash Season 2.

Film

George Miller (Mad Max – All of them) originally wanted Heath Ledger to reboot the franchise as Max, however, you know… So instead he went for Tom Hardy, who, according to Miller had the same ‘restless energy’ as both Gibson and Ledger. Also, in future news, the sequel to Fury Road will be titled The Wasteland.

Here’s the first trailer for the next instalment of The Maze Runner series The Scorch Trials based on the young adult books. There’s also a new poster for the same film.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel is introducing a host of new characters that we’ve not seen in the current series yet including Casey Jones (Played by Stephen Amell) and mutant henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady, but on top of that there’s a rumour circulating that Krang could be making an appearance, you know Krang… He’s the big head squid thing from another dimension.

Television

For those up to date, here’s four featurettes to take you behind the scenes of Game of Thrones season 5 episode 6 ‘unbowed, unbent, unbroken’.

Grant Gustin (of The Flash) has said, or had said, ahead of the season finale last night, that season 2 will introduce a multiverse, or multiple realities and timelines, which is a brave direction for the show to go in.

Games

League of Legends is serious business in the competitive field, so much so that the developers have introduced a new feature called ‘remove eye candy’ which will get rid of some of the more distracting visual effects during play.

Destiny DLC House of Wolves is now out across all platforms, it raises the level cap by 2 (taking it to 34) and introduces 3 new maps, and a bonus map on Playstation, it also introduces a bunch of new gear and weapons as well as new play modes ‘the trials of Osiris’ and ‘the prison of Elders’.

Cities: Skyline has a new update which, amongst other things, includes tunnels. Now as much as the creators have tried to reduce the effect on popular mods for their game, there are some mod breaking side effects.

Kingsman sequel gaining momentum, Fantastic Four Character posters and this month’s free games.

Film

It looks like fans of Kingsman: The Secret Service (see; everyone with any sense, that film is awesome) are in luck, as Fox looks to be getting themselves ready for a sequel. Not only that but it looks like they’re aiming to get original director Matthew Vaughn back for round two, something that they failed to do with the Kick Ass sequel, which suffered from the lack of Vaughn-ism, this is all good news.

A gallery of behind the scenes pictures has appeared from the filming of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, mostly featuring Megan Fox’s April Oneil in various states of disguise, but it also gives us our first look at Stephen Amell’s Casey Jones, as well as his mask.

Hey look, character posters for Fantastic Four that tell us that this is going to be a darker tone than we’re used to. We also get a good look at all of the characters, and I have to admit, the Thing is certainly growing on me… It beats foam suit Michael Chiklis anyway.

Television

Fancy seeing that Arrow has in store for you next week? Well this teaser here will wet your whistle, though I’ll warn you now; MAJOR SPOILERS for this week’s episode, like, in the first second, so don’t even think about it if you’re not up to speed. We also finally see the costume of Katana (Rila Fukushima) after an entire season of talking about the character and seeing her in (non costumed) action.

Have you already finished watching the leaked episodes of Game of Thrones? Do you need more Westeros while the rest-o’-us catch up? Well the best I can do is the titles and plot descriptions of all the upcoming episodes up until episode 8. Happy?

Games

Destiny‘s next piece of DLC  House of Wolves will also bring to the game a heap of new crucible maps, you can take a look at some images and a bit of description right here, and you can play the DLC on May 19.

Hey, do you have Dragon Age Inquisition on anything other than Xbox One? Well you might like to know that the DLC Jaws of Hakkon is due out on all other platforms on May 26th.

It’s the beginning of the Month, which means both Microsoft and Sony have free games to give you; with Xbox’s Games for Gold you can get Castlestorm, Mafia 2 and F1 2013 while on the Playstation system you can bag yourself this huge list of games, including Guacumelee! and a new game; Ether One, many of which are crossbuy between systems.

New Jurassic World trailer, the Lego Movie Sequel gets brought forward and buy your own plushy monotone elcor!

Film

The Lego Movie Sequel, as it’s creatively called, has had its release date brought forward, the sequel, penned again by Miller and Lord will now release on May 18th, 2018. Which is a long ways off, but we’ve got Lego Batman (Feb 10th 2017) to keep us busy until then (kind of).

More confirmation than news, but earlier last week we reported that writers Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LaFauve (Inside out) will now officially be writing the Captain Marvel script.

Big new trailer for Jurassic World, featuring a lot of unseen footage and, more importantly, a little better look at the narrative and story arc. Dino gets made, Dino gets mad, Dino gets friends to cause a raucous.

Television

With the DC Cinematic Universe powering up, and with Suicide Squad on its way, Arrow is facing a slight conundrum. Will two of characters like Deathstroke and Amanda Waller (both due to be appearing in the Suicide Squad movie) mean that characters like that won’t be appearing in Arrow any more? In short, no, they’re still ‘on the table’. In long… well, click here.

Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood (Bobbi Morse and Hunter from Agents of SHIELD) will be headlining the spin off that has been talked about recently. As of yet we don’t know the story details, or whether or not this will be a separate season or an Agent Carter style midseason deal.

Game of Thrones episode 3 gets a teaser today too, stick around until the end for a neat surprise that book readers wouldn’t be expecting, and show watchers should be excited for.

Games

Just a couple of things today for games; Halo 5 has a new trailer and it boasts Spartan Locke’s equipment, the catch? It’s a game stop exclusive, or at least, parts of his arsenal are.

In other space news, Mass Effect has some of the most inventive aliens in the genre, but a personal favourite is the Elcor, huge creatures who’s social cues are so subtle that they have to preface each sentence with their emotion to convey them. And now you can buy your very own plushy Elcor with voice box!

New Avengers clip showing off Ultron’s personality, first look at Luke Cage and Mario Kart’s next DLC.

Film

Ted 2 has a new clip, though I’m sure we’ve seen this one before somewhere (probably in the trailer?) it sees Ted and Marky Mark practising ‘humanity’ questions with Amanda Seyfried’s lawyer character Samantha Jackson.

Paul Feig has said that while Kirsten Wigg will be the audience’s ‘in’ to the female Ghostbusters movie, Melissa McCarthy will be the group’s ‘leader’. He also said that the Tatum movie was a surprise to him and may not happen, and that they really have nothing to do with Feig, Feig, in his words, only cares about his four ladies.

With just over a week to go until it’s released in the UK, Age of Ultron has a few more TV spots and one new clip which shows off the character of Ultron a little more; previously to this it was unclear just how much personality he’d have, well it looks like James Spader is giving the advanced AI a heap of the stuff.

Television

It looks like episode leaks don’t mean an awful lot to Game of Thrones, which despite having the first four episodes of season 5 leaked earlier this week, with 8 million people tuning in to watch the season premiere. Most pirated TV show AND 8 million legit viewers? You’re doing something right HBO.

Two character posters have appeared for Arrow and Arsenal today, seemingly inspired by the ‘superhero fight club’ clip from yesterday.

Yesterday we got a look at the Purple Man (to be played by David Tennant) and today we get a look at Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter, and Jessica Jones. AKA Jessica Jones will air on Netflix some time later this year.

Games

Nintendo have announce the contents for the second lot of Mario Kart 8 DLC, with an adorable trailer. The DLC will include 3 new playable characters as well as four new vehicles and a heap of new tracks, check out the details here.

Bloodborne’s patch that will reduce load times and fix abnormal enemy behaviour (bosses that go ‘easy’ if you leave the game on for 12 hours) is due sometime in April, says From Software.

Hearthstone, the card game from Blizzard (makers of World of Warcraft) is now available on Android and IOS phones, with an updated interface. More than that, players who complete just one game on their device will get a free classic card pack.

Reaction Time: Wars to Come – Game Of Thrones Season Premiere

By Joe Strange

Drunken Dwarf in a box! Blood sucking witches! Gruff northerners talking about burning alive! Dragons!

That’s right folks, Game of Thrones is back, and the first episode in the series focusses on the fallout from the events of the last season as well as the promises of the titular wars to come. Now from here on out, we’re in spoiler territory for all of Game of Thrones so far, so you’ve been warned!

But I’ll warn you again because I’m kind and feeling generous:

BLOODY SPOILERS AHEAD MATE

So, the episode kicks off with a series first; a flash back to a time before the events of the show began, you know way back when that guy, who’s kind of a nice person now, pushed a little boy off a tower, but it’s okay because that boy can see the future now, I think? Doesn’t matter, Bran isn’t here this season, so he and his unworking legs are inconsequential.

Flashback, right, so we see two young girls walking through the forest, we find out that one of these, the blond one, is a young Cersei Lannister, right off the bat Nell Williams does a great Cersei, she’s cold, calculating and kind of a bitch, which is exactly what we’re looking for. Her and her friend find a witch, who Cersei orders to read her future, the witch gets a lot right (because she’s a witch); she’ll marry a King (Robert) who’ll have a lot of kids (his bastards) but she’ll only have 3, all with golden hair (and golden shrouds, implying they’ll all die before they go grey, I imagine) the kicker is that a younger, prettier Queen will be the one to dethrone Cersei, and from here we see exactly why the Lannister despises the young Margaery Tyrell, more on her in a bit.

We then jump to Tywin Lannister’s funeral; shot in the gut by his dwarf son (who’s on the lamb with the eunuch at the end of last season, he didn’t fair too well. Guarding the old man is Jaime Lannister, unlike Joffrey’s funeral there’s no incest sexy times here, no sir, just talk of his legacy, showing weakness and the threat to the Lannister family including their own brother.

Also there’s a slow rendition of the Rains of Castamere playing all the while, clearly Tywin couldn’t resist one last chance to play his favourite song.

Later on we see an interesting scene between Cersei and her cousin Lancel, who was her accomplice in the ‘accident’ that lead to Robert’s death. He’s found religion since he was last seen at the battle of Blackwater, and, while it doesn’t seem like he’s threatening Cersei with his knowledge of her misdemeanour’s, it is a reminder to Cersei of those she’s stepped on to get where she is.

Next up we have Tyrion and Varys, the hottest new power couple in the seven kingdoms. After drinking his way across the narrow sea in a crate, Tyrion is sort of done with… well, everything. This prompts Varys to show some of his cards, to reveal that he was instrumental in the saving of Daenerys from Robert’s rebellion, and in a later scene, to announce that he intends to help her to the iron throne, saying that the seven kingdoms are becoming worse than ever, and that they need a strong, compassionate leader to help save them.

The dialogue between these two is most excellent, the two talented actors make the most of their brilliant characters, with some of Varys’ secrets in the open, he seems less reserved, it also helps that he knows he’s got Tyrion by the short and curlies. This relationship, I think, is really going to be a draw for this season, as they attempt to challenge the status quo of the seven kingdoms.

Speaking of Danaerys and her dragons, we see that the city of Mereen that she conquered, is fighting back. A group called the sons of the Harpy are killing Dany’s unsullied in the streets, and leaving their masks as messages to the new queen, her reign is not welcome here.

She is asked by an advisor to reopen the fighting pits, originally used to pit slaves against slaves, though, once reopened they’d be used only by freemen, but she denies, saying that she does not respect human cock-fighting. But bedtime comes around and Daario tells her the story of his youth, and how the fighting pits led him to her, so they can’t be all that bad. Still opposed to the idea, she visits her 2 captive dragons (Drogon is still MIA), which have grown unruly in their captivity, to the point where a scared Danaerys flees the chamber.

We get a quick visit to the Reach with Littlefinger and Sansa (disguised as Littlefinger’s niece) who have left the heir to the Eyrie with a bannerman while they go off west to do their plotting and scheming. They just miss Brienne, who’s looking for Sansa, arguing with Podrick about the semantics of what is a night. Having her offer of help rejected by Arya in the season finale, she is losing hope in her mission, questioning what her purpose is, considering that all the good leaders are gone and only monsters remain.

We then have a quick Dorne Geography lesson on behalf of Loras Tyrell’s lover, which is interrupted by his sister, who doesn’t seem to be too worried about the threat of Cersei, in fact, she seems pretty relaxed, is she plotting? She’s probably plotting. She’s been spending a lot of time with the Queen of Thorns it seems.

Our final visit in Westeros this week is at the wall, where, after smashing the wildling army last season, Stannis has a pretty big job for Jon Snow; he’s charged with persuading Mance Rayder to bend the knee, and hand his army of freemen to Stannis. Mance, having spent his entire life since the Night’s Watch fighting to be free, and working to unite these people, isn’t so easily persuaded, and things get a little… heated in the final scenes.

In all, a solid return for the series, this season is the one that will surpass the books, so as a book reader I’ll be in the dark come later episodes.

And for those wondering, we’ve not watched the leaked episodes, and neither should you; you’ll only give yourself a longer wait until the next new episode!
