Film

Deadpool has its first red band trailer, and seriously, it’s very hard not to get excited for this film; it seems fun, action packed and a bit of a breath of fresh (blood splattered) air to the sorts of super hero films we’ve seen this year. Not suitable for work, obviously it’s Deadpool silly.

A heap of new Tv spots (three) and a new clip have surfaced from the Fantastic Four reboot that is releasing later this week. Oh, you nearly made a black hole? Well now we know the climax may just involve the threat of a black hole. Probably right?

In none clip-y news, Colin Trevorrow, director of this year’s sequel hit Jurassic World, has discussed some of his plans for the stories that this series could tell, particularly the idea that InGen might not be the only ones who will be able to make dinosaurs; open source Dinos.

Television

Lucy Lane (Louis Lane’s younger sister) has been cast in Supergirl, and will be played by Jenna Dewan-Tatum. In the comics, Lucy Lane eventually becomes superwoman, whether she’ll come in fully powered, or whether her powers will manifest in later episodes or even seasons, we don’t know.

The Lunatics will run the Asylum, if this promo for Season 2 of Gotham is to be believed. It looks like we’ll have an even deeper look into the growth of some of Batman’s finest rogues this season.

A new (unfortunately region locked) teaser for the Walking Dead spinoff ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ has surfaced, as well as some images from season 6 of the main show, they show… well, characters standing and looking intensely into the distance, probably at Zombies, or at eachother… or a tree, also… Zombies. Sorry, walkers.

Games

Gamescon is currently under way, so there’s plenty of news out coming out all of the time, but here’s some of the stuff you may be interested in:

Dark Souls 3. Enough said right? Here’s a gameplay trailer, go get excited. But in all honesty, the guys from From Software (that name is a horribly mean joke to writers everywhere) have claimed that they’re speeding up the combat a little thanks to the reception that Bloodborne’s more high-risk-high-reward combat got from fans, which can be seen in the gameplay, as well as a very Yarnham-y setting.

Destiny The Taken King will bring a lot of changes to the series, a lot. We’re talking questlines, a change in Bounty behaviour, more currency modifications, weapon stat changes, weapon behaviour changes, a different levelling system… it’s a big list, and you can check a summary here. It’s also worth noting that Peter Dinklage is being erased from Destiny and replaced with every-voice Nolan North. Well, Dinklebot wasn’t really around for the DLCs, and I’d rather have more interactions with the Ghost than Tyrion Lannister telling me I’ve woken the Hive.

Mad Max Fury Road was an incredible action film, and now we’ve got a trailer for the Mad Max Game, which is shaping up to be a pretty damn good game itself,  with a whole new story for the game. Check out the trailer here.

First Mockingjay part 2 trailer, Jurassic World outsells the Avengers and Five Nights at Freddy’s Four is OUT NOW.

Film

The first full length trailer for Mockingjay part 2 has surfaced, and it gives us all a better look at what we can be expecting when the film is released on November 20th. (Hint, it’s a Hunger Games, without the arena).

X-men Apocalypse has its first hi-res images of the young Xmen we’re due to meet in Brian Singer’s fourth directorial performance of the series; meet Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nighcrawler, Storm and Jubilee.

Jurassic World has outsold the Avengers to become the third highest grossing film of all time, behind James Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic, so it’s no surprise that the sequel has been lined up for June 22 2018.

Television

The Muppets Show for ABC has a ten minute long pitch for you, apparently this is what one the show a place on the network, and you can see why, it’s pretty funny.

Gotham Season 2 has a few teasers, well, actually 2, 2 trailers. One focussing on just how deep into trouble Gordon will go to do his job and the other focussing on Bruce Wayne and the cliff hanger the season left him on.

Caity Lotz (Sara Lance, the Canary in Arrow) will be returning to Arrow before she takes up the mantle of the White Canary in Legends of Tomorrow.

Games

Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an Xbox One Exclusive, for a time, we knew that, but now we know exactly what time; a year. Playstation owners will have to wait until holiday season 2016 to play the game.

Bungie have given Destiny players a little sneak look at some of the (apparently) vast arsenal that’s coming to Destiny with the Taken King DLC. Not so much information as more images of the new toys.

Who needs scheduled release dates? Certainly not Scott Cawthorn the creator of Five Nights at Freddy’s! Originally due to be released on Halloween of this year, the fourth game in the series is out. Right now, on Steam.

Warcraft trailer coming in November, Gotham season 2 to bring in Calendar man, and the PS store sale kicks off with Journey.

Film

Idris Elba has been confirmed for the third Star Trek film, Star Trek Beyond, in a video by Omaze for charity that sees he and some of the stars of the series talking about how you could win a walk on role in the new film.

The Splinter Cell movie, that will star Tom Hardy, and that is being put together by Ubisoft’s own motion picture department, has gone through another script re-write, but still has the Mad Max actor attached. These rewrites are possibly a good thing, as video game adaptations are not historically amazing, and rewrites means that they’re taking it somewhat seriously.

We will see the first trailer for Duncan Jones’ Warcraft, the film based on the hugely popular MMO, some time in November, his twitter has announced.

Television

American Horror Story will be on its fourth season this year, and this one’s set in a hotel. As well as the usual cast that we’re expecting to see, however, we have a guest star checking in; Lady Gaga.

Emerald City the NBC live action television series that will be based on the land of the Wizard of Oz, has gained itself Self/less director Tarsem Singh.

Gotham season 2 promises to bring the Joker, as well as Mr Freeze to the centre stage, but showrunner Bruno Heller has come out and said that it’s possible they’ll be introducing both Calendar Man and Azreal in the upcoming season as well.

Games

Radical Entertainment’s biological weapon/open world destructo-thing, Prototype, and its sequel, Prototype 2, are now available on next gen (this gen?) consoles, Activision announced today without much to do. The bundle features all the available content wrapped up in an HD remaster.

Jager, the development team behind the incredible Spec Ops the Line have been dropped from their current project, Dead Island 2, publisher Deep Silver have announced today.

Playstation’s summer sale is kicking off to a great start, with Journey and N++ being the first two that are available, with preordering the games netting you a 20% discount and a 10% whole cart coupon also up for grabs.

Ghostbusters Spinoff not currently on the cards, The Joker and Mr Freeze confirmed for Gotham season 2, and Games for Gold gets an upgrade.

Film

With Ant-man so very close now, we’re getting more and more promotional material; today it’s an international trailer which focusses on the father/daughter relationship we’re likely to see as well as a commercial for Cross technologies, the antagonists of the film.

It looks like Disney is somewhat tired of superheroes and the retelling of fairy stories and instead is looking to base a film in Science. That is, an action movie based on the formative life of naturalist Charles Darwin.

Channing Tatum has out and said that currently, at this moment, at the time of writing, the Ghostbusters spin off starring himself (who is set to be in the female lead reboot) is not happening, as it’s too complicated.

Television

Heroes Reborn finally has a full trailer with actual clips from the actual show with actual actors, as well as a synopsis which you can get your hands on here. Also, we called it, Levi is an antagonist.

The X-files reboot has its first few images of an aged and reunited Mulder and Scully, which you can check out over at Screenrant.

The synopsis for season 2 of Gotham moves the Joker and Mr Freeze rumours from the mill to the hard fact, as it confirms that season 2 will focus on them, as well as the mystery of Bruce Wayne’s father. It will return on September 21st.

Games

Xbox’s Games for Gold is getting a little better, well actually, twice as good, as instead of the offering of one free game a month on Xbox One, starting July you’ll be privy to two free games a month.

In a positive move for the quality of gaming, EA have announced that if Star Wars Battlefront isn’t up to snuff by the time November roles around, they will delay the game to refrain from releasing an unfinished product.

Ah Bungie, they do try don’t they? Releasing a huge expansion later this year, they had the best intentions to bundle all the goodies into a package that would require you to buy all the stuff dedicated players already had to get it all, now they’ve been told (very loudly) that that’s not on, they’ve started making moves to make the ‘year one’ players feel more appreciated.

Andy Serkis’ role in The Force Awakens revealed, Trevor Noah to debut in September for the Daily Show and FIFA 16 to include womens’ teams.

Film

We’ve got some set photos from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 which not only feature Shredder and the turtles, but also have a focus on newcomers Bebop and Rocksteady, you know, those two mutants who are like, a punk rhino and a punk Warthog? Anyway, we see them here in their regular human skins, so hopefully this is pre-mutation.

Another day, another Inside Out clip, this one focusses on memories, and the ‘core’ memories that determine the film characters’ personality. Who’s got bets on this being a major plot point?

Andy Serkis has revealed a set image from Star Wars the Force Awakens that should answer a few questions; most notably that Serkis will be in motion capture this time around, and that his character is named ‘supreme commander Snoke’. The leader of the remnants of the empire most likely.

Television

The Daily Show’s new host, Trevor Noah will make his debut as host of the irreverent comedy show on September 28th. You can check out Noah trying out his new chair right here.

Dylan Bruce, star of Orphan Black and Arrow’s Brother Blood, has been cast in Heroes Reborn though very little is known about his character as of yet. Heroes Reborn will air some time this autumn.

Harvey Dent, played in Gotham by Nicholas D’Agasto, has been promoted to a series regular for season 2.

Games

Assassins’ Creed Syndicate the next game in Ubisoft’s historical stabbing simulation will not have a companion app, unlike the last two instalments in the series, so that the dev team can focus on the ‘core experience’. Yes, please, more of this. Syndicate seems to be trying to right the wrongs of the last few games.

It’s taken this long, but female football (soccer) teams will finally be playable in FIFA 16. Not that we usually report on FIFA games, but this is kind of a big step. Not that you’ll be able to play mixed games, but there will be 12 international women’s teams available.

Free Games time; Microsoft’s Games for gold for June include Massive Chalice for Xbox One as well as Thief and Just Cause 2 for Xbox 360. While PSplus’s games include Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes and Super Exploding Zoo for PS4 and Cloudberry Kingdom for PS3. Check out the full list here.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen reboot is in the works, New clip from Disney’s Inside Out, and Gotham to introduce a crime duo,

Film

The Suicide Squad is still in the news it seems, and these folks really need some better security, as this leaked video that shows the Batmobile hunting down Joker’s fancy car that we saw in some previous behind the scene shots, prove. So, Batman cameo very much confirmed?

We’ve not heard much from Disney’s Inside Out of late, but after being very well received at Cannes Film Festival, we’ve got a little clip from the film featuring the whole gang, but focussing on Bill Hader’s Fear.

Hey, do you remember the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? You know, that film that had Sean Connery, Mr Hyde, Tom Sawyer and Captain Nemo in it? You know that film that caused Connery to quit acting? Well, Fox is attempting to reboot the film. Originally ‘based’ on Alan Moore’s graphic novel, which he describes as ‘the Justice League of Victorian England’ the source material has a lot of potential… Give it to Matthew Vaughn?

Television

Gotham is due to introduce two new villains, most likely working as a pair, in the second season, a male DC villain who is intelligent, cultured and highly articulate and a female companion who is in her mid 20’s. With the Joker being played by a young actor of the same sort of age as Bruce Wayne, we can’t really expect this to be Harley Quinn, so possibly a more vague female villain from the rogue’s gallery?

Games

Battlefield Hardline‘s first piece of DLC; Criminal Activity, has its first trailer/official reveal, which you can check out here. The trailer features new maps, new items, new that sort of thing.

Amiibos are pretty neat, but now they’re pretty cute, with their inclusion into Yoshi’s Wooly World, tapping an Amiibo onto the Wii U gamepad will cause another Yoshi to appear on screen, allowing you to solve more puzzles and have twice the fun, ALSO, the amiibo you use will transform yoshi into a newly knitted version based off of that character.

Oscar Winner Redmayne in talks to lead Harry Potter Spin off, Assassins’ Creed Syndicate gets trailer and footage and The Muppets get a TV trailer.

Film

Eddie Redmayne (You know, he won an Oscar for The Theory of Everything?) is in talks with WB to star in the Harry Potter spin off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and is apparently top of the list for the lead character, and author of the fictional book, Newt Scamander.

A commemorative print for the Hunger Games franchise has appeared with some link to the Cannes film festival, it features the Everdeen sisters looking all surly and district 13-y.

Marvel is courting Selma director Ava DuVernay to helm a ‘diverse’ phase 3 movie. Now, our money is on Black Panther, however, Captain Marvel also doesn’t have a director, so it could be that stand alone. It’s one or the other really.

Television

The new Muppets television show, called, aptly, The Muppets, has a new trailer, and it seems to be going for a 30 Rock/The Office hybrid, with all that humour we’re used to seeing in The Muppets, with added satire. (Gonza hates gimmicks)

Morena Baccarin, who plays Leslie Thompkins in Gotham, will be a series regular in season 2, it’s been reported. This should allow Baccarin to sink her teeth into some more in depth characterisation with more of a focus next season.

Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter both got renewed for new seasons last week, and now we have synopsis for the latter courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. (Agent Carter) – Dedicated to the fight against new atomic age threats in the wake of World War II, Peggy must now journey from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous assignment yet. But even as she discovers new friends, a new home — and perhaps even a new love — she’s about to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect.

Games

Batman has a sniper rifle in Arkham Knight! Okay, it’s actually a long range disruptor that you can use to disable enemy weapons before you engage them (so you don’t get shot in your Bat-butt) but still, if people see Batman on a rooftop with a gun… well people will talk…

Ubisoft have seemingly delayed Tom Clancy’s The Division until fourth Quarter 2015, which is actually Jan-March 2016. Which is a shame, though, delays are normally for the best.

The big news of the day is obviously the release of the trailer and gameplay (pre-Alpha) footage of Assassins’ Creed Syndicate; based in pre-industrial London, the game will focus on the struggles of Assassin Jacob Frye, who is trying to cause a revolution by working from the streets up to the highest of the highs, knocking templars off of the rungs as he climbs the ladder of family. (or something, family seems to be a running thing here.) Also, he’s got a grappling gun now, sort of. Also a Zip line maker, could be fun.
