Not so-Fantastic Four, Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition and the return of Walder Frey.

Film

The Fantastic Four reboot starring Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell, has not been received well, by critics or by fans, taking in just enough at the weekend to make it the eighth lowest ever earning Marvel film. Yikes.

There’s a few seconds of new footage in the new international TV spot for Star Wars The Force Awakens, go  on, watch it, you know you bloody want to.

Despite almost the entirety of 22 Jump Street making a joke at the expense of sequels (with the credits really hammering home the point) it looks like Sony is going forward with 23 Jump Street and they’re going to Medical School! Unfortunately, Phil Lord and Chris Miller will not be writing this instalment, but will only be on the project in a producing capacity.

Television

There’s a heap of on set photos from Daredevil season 2 depicting Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) brutally laying down his own kind of Punisher law. Go, observe, and get excited about this guy going toe to toe with Daredevil.

Sense8 has earned itself a second season from Netflix, not long ago Sara gave us a look into what it’s all about and, clearly, someone listened, because the reception of the show has been exceptional.

Get ready to throw stuff at your TV screens kids, because David Bradley has confirmed that he will return as Filch Walder Frey in Game of Thrones, at some point, probably season 6.

Games

Ori and the Blind Forest, which was received very well by critics and players alike, will be getting, not only an expansion, but a definitive edition later on in the year for Xbox one and PC.

Halo 5 Guardians had its beta earlier this year, and it turns out that it’s still a little bit accessible if you’ve downloaded it. Which means that when an update was launched, an eagle eyed player managed to snag some of the soundtrack and screenshots of a new play mode.

The Watch List: Sense8

By Sara Da Silva

Warning: Beware of spoilers.

As all my television shows come to an end, I find myself in need of new shows to binge watch. My latest target: Sense8. This Netflix original tells the story of eight strangers who find themselves to be mentally and emotionally linked.

Each “Sensate” has their individual story, however, these stories are ingeniously interlinked. Will Gorski is a Chicago police officer who is haunted by flashbacks of an unsolved murder from his childhood. Riley Blue, who becomes Will’s immediate love interest, is an Icelandic DJ living in London with a troubled past and a complicated drug-filled present.  Wolfgang Bogdanow is a Berlin locksmith/safe-cracker of Russian decent who is involved in organized crime with his partner-in-said-crime Felix Bernner.

Next on the list is Capheus, a Matatu van driver from Nairobi, who has a deep love for everything Jean-Claude Van Damme, and who is desperately trying to raise enough money to buy medicine for his mother who is dying of AIDS. Sun Bak, one of the show’s most badass characters, is the daughter of a powerful businessman in Seoul, has a master’s degree in economics and has a hidden passion for kickboxing. Nomi Marks is a transgender hacktivist living in San Fransisco with her girlfriend Amanita. Kala Dandekar is a Hindu pharmacist who is engaged to a man that she does not love. And last, but certainly not least, Lito Rodriguez, a closeted film actor who gets into some trouble with his boyfriend, their live-in “beard” and the man who believes that she belongs to him. These characters are so completely different from each other so there is never an opportunity to be bored.

The show successfully incorporates all story lines together by introducing two characters: Jonas Maliki, a fellow Sensate from a different cluster of eight who wants to help the new cluster, and Whispers, a Sensate determined to neutralize newly broken out Sensates.

Due to the connection between the Sensates they are able to communicate, utilise each other’s knowledge and skills, and feel each other’s emotions, which makes for some very interesting scenes. I never thought seen a man experience the pain of a female’s menstrual cycle could be that satisfying. By the end of the season they are all using each other’s skills to escape some pretty sticky situations, for example, Capheus uses Sun’s kickboxing ability and Will’s police skills to defeat some local gang members.

Not only is Sense8 a science-fiction drama, but it also focuses on issues that aren’t usually involved in such shows: gender, sexuality, race and religion. One of my personal favourite things about the show was that it was filmed in 9 different locations: London, Berlin, Chicago, San Francisco, Seoul, Reykjavík, Mexico City, Mumbai and Nairobi. Now that’s dedication. This is definitely a show that is binge-worthy if you have a couple days spare.

I have the utmost faith in Netflix originals and you should too.

Film

The script for Ready Player One, Ernest Cline’s brilliantly praised sci fi novel, is having another rewrite, Zak Penn, who worked on The Incredible Hulk, X2 and the Avengers. Hopefully he can give the script what it needs to get it to a director.

The Purge, a horror film where one night a year anything is legal, has a sequel and a trailer, check it out here. More of the same I imagine, but if you liked the original, then badam.

Straight off the news that Batman Vs Superman will have a teaser at Comic-con come the very similar news that Avengers Age of Ultron will have a trailer there too, the first trailer I might add. As well as maybe a few new bits regarding phase 3.

Television

The brains behind the Matrix and Cloud Atlas have released cast and plot details for their new Netflix original ‘Sense8’ about people who become telepaths, intrinsically linked to one another after a death.

Gotham, if it gets greenlit into a second season, would really like to include Mr Freeze. Which I’d like to see, considering that it’s a villain we’ve not seen realised in a dark, psuedo believable way.

Games

Did you play Twilight Princess? Did you collect those golden bugs? Well remember that creepy girl you gave them to, Agatha? You can play as her in Hyrule Warriors. I’m hoping for some kind of golden bug swarm special attack.

There’s been a massive Witcher 3 leak, so if you’re interested in the game, avoid those files/articles like the plague.

Mirrors Edge, which was a game I thoroughly enjoyed, is getting a sequel, which will focus on first person combat as well as movement, which is great, because the small amount of disarming and what not in the first game was promising, but poorly executed.
