Ready Player One’s release date, Fallout 4’s lack of level cap and the Flash casts Wally West.

Film

Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ernest Cline novel Ready Player One has now got a release date; December 15th 2017. For those unfamiliar, Ready Player One’s synopsis can be found here.

Vin Diesel is the Last Witch Hunter, and he’s not afraid of anything in this second trailer which sets up the world, mythology and characters a little bit more. Also, we get Michael Caine telling us that Vin can’t die, so there’s that.

After scheduling conflicts lead to the departure of J.K Simmons and Michael Keaton, Skull Island was down two men, well now it looks like they’ve found replacements, in the form of Samuel L Jackson and John C. Reilly.

Television

The Flash is getting yet another incarnation of the Scarlet Speedster, along with the golden age Flash Jay Garrick, who will be played by Teddy Sears, Wally West, a character whose name has been thrown about a lot recently, will be a season regular in season two and will be played by Insurgent actor Keiynan Lonsdale.

October 29th will see a TV crossover between Bones and Sleepy Hollow, but what the hell will be happening? Good thing you asked, since a synopsis has just been released for both shows’ episodes.

Fox is up to their old tricks again. Literally, they’re continuing their slew of revivals with Prison Break, which will see the return of Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell.

Games

Cities: Skylines has its first expansion on the horizon, and it’s bringing in a day/night cycle, which isn’t just for aesthetics sake, and will effect the simulation, because we all know things are a little different at night.

Unravel is looking to be one of those adorable little brain benders with an amazing soundtrack, beautiful visuals and a lovely message, you should really check out this three minute video showcasing the gameplay.

Fallout 4 will have no level cap and, in a departure from the series (pre DLC) the game won’t finish once the main story is done with, says Bethesda. Along with changing how the enemies level with you, this could be a great addition to the series, since many players just long to spend as much time as possible in the Fallout world.

The Good Dinosaur gets a trailer, The Minecraft Movie gets a director and Dark Souls 3’s combat gets quicker.

Film

A new trailer (the first real trailer) for Disney/Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur has launched, and it’s shaping up to be a buddy film with very little speech, kind of along the lines of Wall-E I imagine. But still, dinosaurs, adventure, great animation? Sign me up.

Last month we lost composer James Horner, known for doing scores for films such as Braveheart, Titanic and Avatar. Well it seems that despite that we’ve not seen the last of his work, as it’s recently been revealed that Horner had written the score to The Magnificent Seven before his passing.

Finally, there’s been a new trailer, some new images and a new plot synopsis for Spectre the upcoming Bond film.

Television

The X-Files reboot, it seems, will not just be Mulder and Scully looking around empty rooms and interacting with no one at all, as we’ve got some co-stars to report! Robbie Amell (The Flash) Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) and Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley) are all set to co-star.

Quite a dark, contrasted look at Grant Gutin’s new suit for the Flash season 2, but hey, it’s something I suppose.

A new short trailer for Supergirl has surfaced, it doesn’t show off a lot more, but once again, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Games

Movie/game news up first, and the Minecraft Movie has a director in the form of Always Sunny’s Rob McElhenney.

Apparently Bloodborne had more lasting effects than a pile of broken controllers, and as a result of the game, the combat in Dark Souls 3 will be faster paced than it’s predecessors.

Michael Cera to play Lego Robin, Deadpool returns to Steam and The Flash set pictures show that he’s got a day all to himself.

Film

Ahead of its release… TODAY, Ant-man has three new clips for those of us who just can’t wait any longer!

Lord of the awkward character actor Michael Cera will be playing Robin in the Lego Batman movie that will tie in with the world created in the Lego Movie.

Age of Ultron fans, but those fans who wish that Joss Whedon’s vision and voice was a little more prevalent in the film, may be a little disappointed to hear that Whedon has no plans to do a directors cut of the film.

Television

Behind the scenes photos for AKA Jessica Jones now, and like, literally all of the other photos it shows Luke Cage riding a motorcycle with Krysten Ritter’s Jones in tow.

A new teaser trailer for the new season of the X-files has hit, and it’s all exactly like we expected, complete with the doo-doo-doo-doo dooo at the end.

New set photos from the Flash show us two things; one that Central city is celebrating the Flash with a day imaginatively called ‘flash day’ (probably has a dance called Flash dance too right?) which means either he’s done something huge, or it’s the anniversary of him doing something huge. It also shows us a new villain, Atom Smasher, who can control his molecular structure, altering his size and strength.

Games

Goat Simulator, you know, that game where you’re a crazed goat, is coming to the PS3 and PS4 in August and will support local split screen co-op.

Destiny will be getting an overhaul at the end of the summer, with Destiny 2.0 changes coming into effect, one of these is a huge upheaval of many weapon’s behaviours, from class changes to individual exotic tweaks.

Activision’s Deadpool game has been missing from Steam since 2013 when it was released, but suddenly it’s back, could it be because the new film doesn’t look like trash? Probably.

Suicide Squad trailer released in HD, a look at Oliver Queen’s new outfit and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 gets a trailer.

Film

The first trailer for Xmen apocalypse appeared at Comic Con this week, and while we don’t have that to show you, we do have a detailed description, as well as the confirmation of the official Four Horseman; Magneto, Psylocke, Storm and Angel.

Speaking of Super Hero trailers, or, more precisely, villain trailers, here’s an official release of the pirated Suicide Squad trailer that the WB have been unable to contain, so they did good by everyone and released an HD version.

Star John C Reilly has pretty much confirmed Wreck it Ralph 2. Though it’ll most likely be somewhere after all the other sequels (and new properties) that are coming out in the coming years. (Frozen 2, the Incredibles 2, Cars 34(probably).

Television

A whole lot of talking went on at Comic Con this week, some of it about our favourite scarlet Speedster The Flash, season two is only 14 weeks away and we’ve got a little run down of season one as well as a cryptic look at what we can expect in season 2. (Blue lightning, the answer is blue lightning).

Speaking of DCs’s television shows, Arrow, which saw Oliver Queen going off on holiday and hanging up his hood at the end of the last season, has a new costume. It looks very cool, as well as practical. Diggle is also getting new threads this season, though this one’s a little vague.

Finally, as a surprise to no one, Bran will be returning for season 6 of Game of Thrones, picking his story up a little after we left him (to skip all that boring seer training)

Games

Five nights at Freddy’s Four has a new creepy trailer, and will be coming this Halloween, this jump scar filled indie game series took the lets play community by storm.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 has a trailer, and it involves skating, which is good, since, you know, I don’t buy Pro Skater games for the FPS sections.

Batman Arkham Knight has had a heap of trouble on the PC, so much so that WB are holding off on the Batgirl DLC for the platform until it’s up to scratch.

Chris Pratt introduces his Dino-pack, Matt Parkman returns in Heroes Reborn and Batman Arkham Knight gets a live action trailer.

Film

Jurassic World is getting close now, and here’s two more TV spots for the next instalment in the ‘life finds a way’ propaganda movie series, the first features Chris Pratt’s character introducing the Raptor Pack, while the second is an explanation of why they felt the need to BUILD A NEW DINOSAUR.

We get a look at each of the Fantastic Four’s powers in this new promo– beware, it’s actually an add for a movie app.

Remember a while ago we spoke about the BBC drama that would be based around the creation of the GTA series? It was to be titled Game Changer, well, Take-Two Interactive have filed for a lawsuit against the BBC for copyright infringement. So, did someone not like the script?

Television

Heroes Reborn is bringing back yet another familiar face, in the form of psychic cop/magic painter Matt Parkman played by Greg Grunberg. Previously a staple of the original series, Parkman was one of the lead investigator into the Sylar murders (you know, when that show was great.)

Fans of the Flash and Arrow have a long wait ahead of them until the autumn when the shows return, and no doubt we’ll be covering any new news that turns up until then, like this, two videos in which the shows’ creators are chatting about the upcoming seasons.

Games

Battlefield Hardline will get its first of four planned expansions in June, it’s been announced, Criminal Activity will include new maps, weapons and cars as well as a new game mode, check the full list of features out here.

A trailer for the next instalment in the Game of Thrones Telltale game series is out now, with the actual chapter releasing next week across platforms.

There’s a new trailer for Batman Arkham Knight, with a twist; this one is life action, and instead of focussing on gameplay, it’s all about capturing the feel of being Batman, you know, one of the things these games do really well is making you feel like an absolute badass.

Because you’re Batman.

New Destiny expansion out now, Mad Max’s sequel title confirmed and the Grant Gustin talks alternate dimensions in The Flash Season 2.

Film

George Miller (Mad Max – All of them) originally wanted Heath Ledger to reboot the franchise as Max, however, you know… So instead he went for Tom Hardy, who, according to Miller had the same ‘restless energy’ as both Gibson and Ledger. Also, in future news, the sequel to Fury Road will be titled The Wasteland.

Here’s the first trailer for the next instalment of The Maze Runner series The Scorch Trials based on the young adult books. There’s also a new poster for the same film.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel is introducing a host of new characters that we’ve not seen in the current series yet including Casey Jones (Played by Stephen Amell) and mutant henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady, but on top of that there’s a rumour circulating that Krang could be making an appearance, you know Krang… He’s the big head squid thing from another dimension.

Television

For those up to date, here’s four featurettes to take you behind the scenes of Game of Thrones season 5 episode 6 ‘unbowed, unbent, unbroken’.

Grant Gustin (of The Flash) has said, or had said, ahead of the season finale last night, that season 2 will introduce a multiverse, or multiple realities and timelines, which is a brave direction for the show to go in.

Games

League of Legends is serious business in the competitive field, so much so that the developers have introduced a new feature called ‘remove eye candy’ which will get rid of some of the more distracting visual effects during play.

Destiny DLC House of Wolves is now out across all platforms, it raises the level cap by 2 (taking it to 34) and introduces 3 new maps, and a bonus map on Playstation, it also introduces a bunch of new gear and weapons as well as new play modes ‘the trials of Osiris’ and ‘the prison of Elders’.

Cities: Skyline has a new update which, amongst other things, includes tunnels. Now as much as the creators have tried to reduce the effect on popular mods for their game, there are some mod breaking side effects.

Civil War’s funeral revealed, The Rock to return for Furious 8 and Sega pulls a heap of games from iTunes.

Film

Spoilers right out of the gate; last week we showed images from Captain America Civil War that featured some of our favourite heroes in funeral attire, now we know officially who’s send off they were attending, it should be a surprise, but click here to see.

Furious 7 has taken the box office by storm, and really claimed the franchise’s place as one of the biggest cinema events of their release year. To that end, it’s no surprise that the 8th film in the franchise has been given the go ahead for 2017 and fans of Dwayne Johnson’s character of Luke Hobbs will be happy to know he’s on his way back for the next instalment.

Chris Pratt, now there’s a popular sought after guy, after starting his career in Parks and Recreation he’s gone from strength to strength starring in surprise mega-hit Guardians of the Galaxy and soon to be in Jurassic World, he’s even in talks to reboot the Indianna Jones franchise… One thing he’s pretty sure he’s not doing? Ghostbusters. He calls the rumours that he and Channing Tatum will be starring in their own movie in the series ‘Bullshit’, that he’s not heard anything about them.

Television

Arrow season 3 started off with a major character’s death, and the tone of the season just followed that; it was a particularly dark and menacing series, even for a show that thus far has been dark anyway. Well season 4, showrunner Marc Guggenheim says, will be a lighter tone. Not too light, this isn’t the Flash, after all, but it will be lighter.

Speaking of the Flash, Grant Gustin has suited up alongside Melissa Benoist for a Variety cover focussing on producer Greg Berlanti, who has been responsible for bringing these characters to our screens.

Games

Hey remember last year when Destiny’s Alpha came out and Dinklebot had that hilariously bad line about moon wizards? Well it’s back! Re-edited so that it sounds like the robotic ghost that we’ve all grown to… like? Anyway, reports say it’s actually been back in the game for months.

Sega have pulled a heap of games from online app stores Google Play and iTunes including Jet Set Radio, Super Monkey Ball, Altered Beast and Ecco the Dolphin. For a full list, check here.

Civilization: Beyond Earth has its first expansion on the way, in the form of rising tide, which will see players able to build on water and explore the treasures (and treacherousness) of the oceans as well as new diplomatic options.

Crossbones’ Costume revealed, alternate Hulk Vs Ironman fight from Age of Ultron and David Lynch returns to Twin Peaks.

Film

In case you missed it over the weekend, here’s a picture of Frank Grillo’s character Brock Rumlow from Civil War, only with a bit of a makeover; last seen recovering from serious wounds after fighting Falcon in The Winter Soldier, Rumlow will return in Civil War as Crossbones, who will almost definitely have a vendetta against cap and the gang.

One of the biggest draws for Age of Ultron was the Hulkbuster Vs Hulk fight, now I was pretty happy with how that scene went down, but here’s an alternate version in the form of an animated storyboard, of how that fight could have gone down; much more gas, less call backs to punching Thor in his big Norse face.

Mad Max Fury Road which has been receiving a lot of praise across the board for various reasons, has enjoyed over a box office opening of over £100 Million, sitting second place to Pitch Perfect 2.

Television

Last week we reported the list of shows that would, and those that would not, be getting a season renewal come the fall, and on the latter list was The Mindy Project, but immediately after the cancellation there were whispers of an on demand service picking up the show, and those rumours turned out to be right on the money, as Hulu has picked the show up for a 26 episode run.

It’s been a wild ride for Twin Peaks fans since the announcement that the show would be returning again for another season; first excitement, then disappointment when David Lynch left the project, well breath easy fans, because Lynch is back on board, and not only that, but he’ll be directing the entire series, which will be longer than the 9 hours previously stated.

Greg Berlanti has discussed the possibility of The Flash and Arrow crossing over with CBS’ Supergirl, and has said that it’s most likely not going to happen. He says it could happen, but a lot of things would have to go right for it to.

Games

Fans of indie games Octodad and Thomas Was Alone who play Little Big Planet 3 will be in for a treat, as costumes for both those games are coming to the creativity fuelled Playstation exclusive.

Want to play Super Smash Brothers but don’t own a WiiU? You only have a PC? Well Check in, Knock out could be what you’re looking for, featuring special abilities, destructible environments and charming art, this brawler could satiate your need.

Civil War cast announced, Infinity War writers confirmed, Arrow/Flash Spinoff given an official synopsis and Nintendo is making money again.

Film

News on the Captain America Civil War front (out of interest, do I need to keep using Captain America Civil War, or do you all know what I’m talking about when I say Civil War?), days after the casting of Martin Freeman (whose role we still don’t know for sure), the entire cast list has been announced for the third Captain America film. Along with those we knew of (most of the main cast from Phase 2 minus the Thor gang) we also get a confirmation of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang (Ant-man) which is reassuring to hear, as well as William Hurt’s General Ross who you might remember from The Incredible Hulk. Whether this is all we’re going to see (a notable absence is Spiderman as well as most of SHIELD) is still unknown, as there’s still the hope of Daredevil returning from his Netflix series on top of it all.

Quentin Tarantino’s Hateful Eight almost didn’t happen, if you remember, after a script leak last year Tarantino almost put an end to the entire project, but now that’s not the case and we get the first look at some of the cast thanks to a cover of Entertainment Weekly.

Avengers Infinity War (Part 1 and 2) will film back to back, we know this, over 90 days, but more exciting is the fact that the entire film will be shot in IMAX, This will be the first time an entire film has been shot in this way. On top of that, it’s been officially confirmed that Winter Soldier writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will rejoin with the Russo brothers to write the next Avengers event.

Television

Everything you love is getting renewed! I’m talking Agent Carter (se2), I’m talking Agents of SHIELD (se3), I’m talking The Flash (se2) and Arrow (se4), I’m talking Last Man on Earth (se2), I’m NOT talking the Mindy Project, because that got cancelled by Fox. But it’s not all doom and gloom, because it could make the jump to Video on Demand with a two season deal with Hulu.

So we’ve had things that have been renewed, what about the stuff that didn’t even get off the ground? Well, good news for those who thought the television side of the MCU was getting a bit crowded; the Hunter/Bobbi Morse spin off has been cancelled, but as mentioned above, Agent Carter is coming back and so is Agents of SHIELD.

The Arrow/Flash spinoff Legends of Tomorrow has got a season order, as well as a series synopsis, and it features TIME TRAVEL (because that definitely won’t puncture holes in any canon) here’s the official synopsis: – When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known? – The show will introduce Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who) as Rip Hunter as well as introducing (and reintroducing) various characters from the DC universe.

Games

James will be happy to know that Nintendo is profitable again! That’s about it, just James. But it’s in part due to depreciation of the Yen against the Dollar… something something economy, and I imagine the Amiibo craze and Majora’s Mask didn’t hurt either.

House of Wolves, the next Destiny expansion is bringing a lot of neat things to the series from the sounds of it, and to take a look at some of the specifics (like the new 3 man fireteam vs gladiator arena style Prison of Elders) over at Kotaku.

Next week we should learn a bit more about the next Assassins’ Creed game, which is set in Victorian England (We think). By next week, we mean Tuesday, so stay tuned for that.

Coffee Time News 04/05/15

First look at Will Smith’s Deadshot from Suicide Squad, Batgirl is playable in Arkham Knight and Star Wars Rebels is free to watch today.

Film

Michael Fassbender, who’s both producing and starring in the Assassins’ Creed movie adaptation, has stated that the movie will begin filming this September, aiming for a late December 2016 release. Fassbender has been quiet on where, or when, the animus sections of the film will be based in.

Suicide Squad! (Or as it will most likely be renamed, I imagine, Task Force X) director David Ayer has released a roster photo of the gang from Belle Reve, showing us the first look at some of the anti-heroes we’ll be meeting, including Katana and Killer Croc amongst the characters we’ve already heard about. And if you’d like a detailed look at Will Smith’s Deadshot, just click here for an image that includes the signature helmet/mask.

Fantastic Four and Chronicle director Josh Trank has stepped back from directing the second Star Wars Anthology Spin off that was due out in 2018. We knew little of the project, and we know little of the departure, though Trank has stated that he’s intending to pursue original creative opportunities’ – after working with Fox on a brand like Fantastic Four, it’s no surprise he’d like to take a break from franchises and the pressure therein.

Television

If we’d known about this earlier, we’d have shared it at the beginning of the week, but for those who haven’t seen Star Wars Rebels you can watch the entire season 1 for free online here, until the end of May 4th Bank Holiday.

Grodd is a character that has been built up in the Flash since the pilot, well the super intelligent telepathic ape is about to make a spotlight appearance in the upcoming episode ‘Grodd Lives’ – you can check out the promo here.

Games

People might know how much I loved Child of Lightand how addictive that world is, and while Ubisoft haven’t confirmed a sequel, but they have let us revisit the world, in this 20 page children’s book, featuring the adventures of Reginald the Populi.

Fancy slaying dragons in Dragon Age Inquisition‘s multiplayer? Well you’re in luck, launching tomorrow (on all available platforms) is a multiplayer expansion which will allow groups of players to take on the fiercest beats in Thedas.

Still think £40 for a season pass for Batman Arkham Knight is a bit steep? What if I told you it included a stand alone story featuring Batgirl named ‘a matter of family’? Yeah, it’s still pretty steep… but if more narrative content is included and less… trial maps, then I’m all about it.
